Pigadia - The Capital Town of Karpathos
Pigadia, otherwise known as the capital town and main port of the island, is located at the foot of the mountain Kali Limni in the southeastern side of Karpathos. It is built on the same site as the ancient city of Poseidon. At the top of the hill, parts of the ancient citadel and the Cyclopean Walls are preserved. The name of the town also translates as “spring“, because many natural springs have been found in the area. Pigadia is centrally situated and is therefore an ideal location to explore the entire island of Karpathos.
Pigadia is a modern town and most of its houses and public buildings are new. In every neighbourhood, guests will have the chance to enjoy beautiful images that blend the traditional style with modern comforts. The picturesque narrow streets and the colorful balconies full of flowers make Pigadia, the capital of the island of Karpathos, an attractive destination. The town offers an endless list of facilities dedicated to entertainment such as traditional restaurants and small taverns, cafes, bars, nightclubs and many opportunities for relaxing walks.
